Colorado artist Daniel Romano creates work as a meditation on current events and social issues. He weaves together a view of the world from his neurodiverse viewpoint. Building references outside of the typical interpretation of imagery or words, seeing them as playful, curious, and malleable. The work is about relaying feelings. With a background in machining and welding, he designs tools to create specific features in the process of producing work.
Romano is currently working on painted metal relief panels. This new direction is from a commercial approach to producing a 'painting' (as they hang on a wall). Metal relief panels incorporate sculptural elements that interact with surface imagery to relay some feeling to the audience. This bright and fresh work first appears amusing and almost playful. Deeper consideration reveals the complex issues underneath the explosion of colors and leaves the viewer with a paradox to ponder in the coming days.
