Nurse Shelter 2020
Nurse shelter, an abstract figurative head with mask and veil. Representing a nurse as an essential part of COVID-19. But my choice of pigment of the face and the iris color represents black lives as medical workers but more importantly the idea centered on the term essential, as black citizens are an essential part of society. Essential not as servants, or those deprived of civil liberties.... but of equal or a greater place within society. The pink cross is symbolic of femininity, partly a female nurse but my an expression of the female part of society that is also suppressed. An unbalanced system cannot be as GREAT as one in balance. Within the pink cross is an eye that represents a conscience, and connection to one another as a collective energy.
This piece was developed and made during the pandemic of the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
