INDULGE: FORMED STEEL 'crs' (cold rolled steel)

11 gauge CRS base plate sanded and cleaned after cutting. (plastic cup for scale)
Picture
Flat sheets of cold rolled steel hand formed to match the contours of the base plate.
once all the edges are formed to match the base plate, they are aligned and tack welded.

Picture
All pieces are then welded after final alignment.

Then the steel surface is sent through a phosphate bath prior to Paint. Pictured below is fresh from the painter, this image has had more than one comment on being computer generated, though not so. This piece went on to further paining. Finished size H 22"  L 60"  D 4" formed, welded steel, paint.

FRN:
The ONE DOLLAR note has the most interesting engraving of all the note of the federal reserve. FRN is inspired from the upper right corner of the $1 note. Though as commonly seen on a day to day basis, very few recognize this as a currency icon, alternatively relating it to the interstate icon.
The background panel is distressed which relates to the abuse of the dollar, the '$' character is not part of the idea behind this piece, as it is about the energy behind the dollar. A concept of money being an entity in which people have a relationship with, that can be nurtured or abused. This relationship can flourish or be a burden.

The process of building the work is a process of matching the contours by hand forming 10 gauge (.100" thickness) sheet Aluminium. Once all the edges components are fit to the surface piece, they are tacked in proper position. When proper alignment has been checked and adjustments are made, the entire internal and external periphery are then TIG welded. Now the laborious process of sanding the welds , and polishing the edges to appear as a single piece sheet of Aluminium.

2012 installations with Alain Navaratne, Daniel Romano district 14 school outdoor classroom. Based on the golden ratio (Phi). This ration was used in the layout of radii which formed the bench thicknesses, the spaces between the benches, and the diameter of the inner slab. Also the angular layout of the starting and stopping points of the benches along with the spaces between benches along the circumference.  This location was a challenge because of the natural slope of site, care was taken in the survey to level the area without having the benches taller than 20".
